Terrell Place Atrium Infill & Stair - Washington, DC

Theobald + Bufano & Associates recently completed the building strengthening to allow an existing atrium opening to be infilled with a new floor and connecting stair. This was part of a multi-floor tenant suite in Washington, D.C. The existing atrium slab was framed with long span post tensioned slabs that required extensive analysis and reinforcing to suit the new floor and stair loads. External carbon fiber reinforcing was used to allow the new loads on the existing floors. The floor restructuring and reinforcing was hidden below and out of sight of the new space. This structural design allowed the client to fully recognize the potential for the floor and recapture a dark interior atrium space.
