Shopping Center Building Renovations - North Bethesda, MD

This project included major structural modifications to the roof structure to increase the floor to floor height by close to 9 feet. The existing structural steel floor beams were also reinforced through an innovative system to increase their capacity due to change in occupancy. The roof structure was lifted with hydraulic jacks while the existing mechanical units remained on the roof and the existing tenants below the 2nd floor space were undisturbed. This method allowed the roof lifting to occur while preventing the building from being opened to the elements. This project was awarded the Honor Award for Engineering Excellence from the Consulting Engineers Council of Metropolitan Washington.
