Patent and Trademark Office Stair - Alexandria, VA
This project included a two-story egress stair added to the Madison East Building at the United States Patent and Trademark Office. This new structural steel stair went from the concourse level to the 2nd floor. Structural engineering analysis was done to design reinforcing for the slab around the stair shaft. Strengthening of the slab was achieved using high strength carbon fiber reinforced sheets (CFRP) on the top and bottom side of the slabs. This Project represents the first use of CFRP in the City of Alexandria.
