This project included multiple slab opening infills which utilized rebar splice couplers to existing reinforcing and allowed for the removal of existing steel beam reinforcing which allowed greater flexibility in plenum space of the floor below.
Our office designed the slab reinforcing and structural steel stair framing for two interconnecting stairs within the tenant space in different areas of the floor plate. The slab strengthening utilized steel shear collars to increase punching shear strength and carbon fiber reinforcing to increase slab capacity.
This project also included the installation of a new monumental stair within the two-story penthouse level for access to a rooftop terrace. This design utilized an under-stair stringer which allowed for thin tread members to appear to float as the stair rises to the roof level. This stair was designed to meet not only building code requirements, but also vibration induced motion to limit discomfort on the stair.
