Historic Silver Theater - Silver Spring, MD

The project included the renovation of the 1938 Silver Theater and the construction of a new headquarters building for the American Film Institute. These two buildings were integrated and connected together. The Silver Theater structural renovation included removal of several deficient floor systems and their replacement with new framing within the envelope of the existing walls. Strengthening of the historic ceiling including the central spine section was necessary due to damage found during the construction phase. New mechanical upgrades required strengthening of existing roof structures for the new loads and removal of a section of the roof for new ductwork passage.
