Gibson Dunn & Crutcher Stair - Washington, DC
This project involved the structural alteration work for the new offices of the law firm of Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher LLP. Theobald Bufano & Associates designed the removal of two entire bays of internal structure to provide a two-story interior main lobby for the firm. In this new lobby area, a freestanding curved monumental staircase was designed to spring from a raised platform. This project also included more standard designs such as raised platforms for high density filing; a second communicating stair at the opposite end of the floor plate and 3,600 square feet of slab strengthening for mechanized filing systems.
