1801 S Bell Street Building Renovations - Crystal City, VA
This project included the strengthening and alterations of an entire ten-story existing office building to suit the new tenant usage. The total project area encompassed 208,000 SF. Structural engineering design and analysis was done to reinforce existing cast-in-place slabs for a large data center. Strengthening was achieved using high strength carbon fiber reinforced sheets (CFRP) and external steel framing on the columns. This Project represented the first significant use of CFRP in Arlington County. Several Other areas of high-density filing were reinforced using a combination of structural steel beams, steel shear heads and CFRP. Extensive additions of mechanical loads on the roof required structural framing for new chillers and generators.
